Training School 2026

15th Microencapsulation Training School

Loughborough, United Kingdom - March 23-26, 2026

Introduction

Unlocking the Potential of Microencapsulation & Bioencapsulation

Welcome to the 15th Microencapsulation Training School, which will take place from March 23-26, 2026, in Loughborough, United Kingdom.

This edition is organized by the Bioencapsulation Research Group (BRG) in collaboration with academic and industrial partners, and proudly hosted by Loughborough University.

About the Training School

The 15th Microencapsulation Training School offers a four-day intensive program combining theoretical lectures with hands-on laboratory sessions, aimed at building competence in microencapsulation technologies.

This school is ideally suited for PhD students, post-doctoral researchers (postdocs), academic researchers, and professionals from encapsulation-related industries (e.g., engineers, technical specialists, applied researchers) who are seeking a deeper understanding and practical experience in encapsulation processes.

The program provides a stimulating environment for deepening knowledge in microencapsulation, with a focus on techniques for encapsulating biomolecules, bacteria, and animal cells.

Through lectures, demonstrations, and practical assignments, participants will gain both theoretical and experimental skills. They will learn from international experts, strengthen their competence in formulation, process optimization, and characterization of encapsulated systems, and present their work during the Poster Session.

This training school is also a valuable opportunity to engage with experts and expand your professional network within the bioencapsulation community.

Program Overview

A comprehensive blend of theory, practice, and professional networking

The 15th Microencapsulation Training School offers a unique blend of theoretical instruction, practical experience, and community engagement. Through expert-led lectures, hands-on laboratory sessions, and structured networking opportunities, participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of microencapsulation technologies and their real-world applications across diverse industries.

Morning Lectures

Start the day with expert insights and foundational knowledge

Each day begins with in-depth lectures delivered by renowned international specialists. Key topics include:
- Materials and Methods – Latest developments in materials and encapsulation techniques.
- Application Areas – Real-world case studies in pharmaceuticals, food technology, agriculture, and biotechnology.

📌 Participants are also invited to bring a scientific poster, which will be displayed and discussed informally during coffee breaks throughout the training school.

These sessions provide a solid theoretical foundation and prepare participants for afternoon practicals.

Afternoon Hands-On Practicals and Demonstrations

Apply concepts through interactive laboratory work

After lunch, participants engage in small-group laboratory sessions designed to apply and reinforce the concepts introduced in the morning lectures. These hands-on sessions combine demonstrations and practical assignments, offering a practical perspective on microencapsulation. Participants will explore a variety of encapsulation technologies and relevant characterization methods, gaining direct experience with materials, processes, and instrumentation in a collaborative setting.

Networking & Community Building

Create lasting connections in a friendly, professional environment

To foster connections and peer-to-peer learning, the program includes:
• A Welcome Reception and Evening Social Events
• Informal Poster Session during coffee breaks
• Interactive Discussion Forums with peers, invited speakers, and industry representatives

Poster Presentation & Best Poster Award

Participants are invited to bring a scientific poster, which will be displayed and discussed informally during coffee breaks throughout the training school.
The Best Poster Award will be presented at the end of the Training School to recognize outstanding scientific quality, clarity of presentation, and engagement during the Poster & Oral Session. The winner will receive a certificate and a symbolic prize.
